The biofuel by Cooperl

One year ago, Cooperl Environment team presented the biofuel project to representatives during a biofuel web conference. As a reminder, Cooperl Environnement biofuel is a biofuel made from flotation fats mainly from our industries.

In order to recover its greasy residues while reducing its carbon footprint, our cooperative will supply its entire fleet of trucks from 2025 with biofuel made from flotation grease!

GREAT PROJECTS FOR THE FUTURE

A pilot plant is already making it possible to test this biofuel on a few vehicles and a new plant will come out of the ground in 2025. Objective: to produce 20 million liters per year of this biofuel, made from greasy residues from the manufacturing processes of the food industry.

This biofuel is 100% substitutable for diesel, can be used all year round and does not require engine modification.

REUNION TIME AT SPACE TRADESHOW

Tuesday 13, Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 September, SPACE tradeshow was back at the Rennes exhibition center in France for a 35th edition !

On the occasion of this unmissable event in the field of breeding, many visitors came to visit the stand of Cooperl and its subsidiaries : Farmapro, Nucléus, Calipro, Vereijken and CRD. Some employees and administrators also had the opportunity to speak on topical subjects among the 100 conferences organized by SPACE.

With 1,200 exhibitors present to welcome more than 90,000 visitors, including more than 8,000 international visitors from 120 countries, the 35th edition of SPACE has kept its promises, thus regaining its international dimension, proven over the past 2 years.

SANDRINA AND BERNARD

During SPACE tradeshow, we took the opportunity to interview our collaborators and our member breeders on our corporate actions to carry out our CSR commitments.

This new edition of "La minute Space" was launched by Sandrina Mendes, cattle breeder in Tréveneuc (Britanny, France). She is involved from the beginning in our cattle sector.

When the show closed its doors, after 3 intense days, it was Bernard Rouxel's turn to pass in front of the camera... Pig breeder in Plénée-Jugon (22), he is also vice-president of the board of directors Cooperl. He gives us his first impressions of this edition of SPACE !

Romain and more videos on YouTube Cooperl France account

Romain, a pig breeder in the Côtes d'Armor (Brittany, France), also spoke during the exhibition ! Romain's farm is certified High Environmental Value (HVE), the highest pillar of environmental certification set up and supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrifood.

In total, 7 videos (and a making-off!) were produced during the SPACE show. All the videos can be found on our Linkedin Cooperl account or on our YouTube Cooperl France account!

Great recognition of the work of our teams

We had the honor of receiving the 2nd prize of the "Ivan Tolpe Award" 2022 thanks to our ValuTRAC solution, which combines the technique of V-scraping (TRAC) with the manufacture of liquid fertilizer from urine of pigs. This distinction is awarded to companies offering an innovative technique that contributes to the treatment of slurry in a more sustainable and more economical way.

The Cooperl teams thus had the opportunity to present the ValuTRAC solution at the international ManuREsource conference held in Holland. His goal ? Allow the exchange of experiences between regions on policy measures taken to deal with manure surpluses, in terms of management and treatment solutions.

Cooperl on France 3 Brittany (French television channel) : focus on our wastewater treatment and recycling station

PURIFICATION OF 60% OF OUR ANNUAL WATER CONSUMPTION

During these periods of drought in France, our wastewater treatment and recycling station was highlighted in a report by France 3 Brittany (a French television channel) on saving water.

Thanks to our station located in Lamballe (Brittany, France), we purify 60% of our annual water consumption. Thanks to several processes (degreasing, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis), we treat the wastewater from our workshops and recover very good quality water that we can reuse. We thus save 350,000m3 of drinking water per year.

Currently, this recycled water is not drinking water in the regulatory sense since it does not come from the natural environment. To go further, the objective is to experiment and prove that we can reuse this water for, for example, pre-washing operations in our casing workshop. These water savings are thus beneficial both for the environment and for the cooperative.

This initiative initiated by our cooperative is part of a broader approach led by the ABEA, the Agro Breton network which mobilizes many actors in the Breton agri-food industry.

All committed to the environment

The first phase of renovation work on the rail freight line between Vitré and Gérard in France has just been completed.

The french State, the Brittany Region, Vitré Communauté, Cooperl and SNCF Réseau are together committed to the sustainability of this line. It allows the delivery of our agricultural raw materials to our main livestock feed manufacturing plant.

In 2021, we transported by rail freight 36% of our raw materials out of all our volumes of raw material purchases for animal feed. The renovation of this line is fully in line with our decarbonization objective since the train represents nine times less carbon emissions than the truck.

CALIXTE AND ISTURAÏ, TWO SITES SPECIALIZED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF DRY SALTED

Our cooperative has just acquired two new dry curing sites in France by taking over from the Aoste group the company Calixte, which has the very beautiful dry sausage site in Vernoux-en-Vivarais (07), and the company Isturaï, which has the dry ham site in Monein (64) in the Bayonne region.

This external growth responds to our desire to continue our development in the dry market in France, one of the few growing markets.

This project opens up new perspectives for our cooperative. We welcome the 97 new employees... or "degemer mat", as we say in Brittany !

THE FRENCH MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND FOOD VISITS BRITTANY

This Friday, November 19, our teams had the pleasure of receiving the visit of Julien Denormandie, French Minister of Agriculture and Food, at the premises of Cooperl Viandes in Lamballe in Brittany.

He traveled in the region on the subjects of the end of castration and the modernization of french slaughterhouses.

A DAY RICH IN DISCOVERIES AND LEARNING

After a rich exchange where the upmarket, decarbonization and segmentation projects carried out by our cooperative Cooperl were presented, the french Minister was able to visit the Lamballe slaughterhouse in Brittany.

He was particularly interested in our teams of “human noses”, an essential link in the implementation of the cessation of live castration of piglets, initiated in 2008 at Cooperl. Today, 84% of our members no longer castrate their male piglets.

Cooperl received a trophy "Ivan tolpe award" for VALUTRAC solution

INNOVATIVE AND PROMISING TECHNIQUES IN THE TREATMENT OF EFFLUENTS

Our cooperative has just received the second trophy of the “Ivan Tolpe Award” thanks to our ValuTRAC solution, which combines the V-scraping technique (TRAC) with the production of liquid fertilizer from pig urine.

The Flemish Coordination Center for Manure Management (VCM - Belgium) thus rewards innovative and promising techniques in the treatment of effluents.

AT THE HEART OF THE VALUTRAC PROCESS

Through our ValuTRAC innovation, our challenge is to find a solution capable of upgrading nitrogen from urine into liquid fertilizer.

Our ValuTRAC process works in three steps:

Step 1: preparation
Step 2: volatilization
Step 3: air washer
