The EPP congress in France

On May 30 and 31, the European Pig Producers' Association held its annual congress in Nantes on the themeHow to engage the consumer”. The event offered a unique opportunity to discover the latest innovations in the pork industry. Cooperl supported the event as a gold sponsor.

Three days of sharing and discovery

The congress took place over three days, combining field visits and technical presentations. Participants had the opportunity to visit companies in the Grand Ouest region. In Lamballe, for example, Cooperl teams visited the Bulle Cooperl Environnement and the Cooperl Equipements showroom.

Topics at the heart of the cooperative's concerns

Naturally, the environmental footprint of pork production (ammonia emissions, greenhouse gas emissions), animal welfare and food safety were at the heart of the discussions! And just as well, Cooperl has a lot to say on the subject... In fact, the company has been making a remarkable effort to innovate on environmental issues for almost 40 years.

A strategic and economic challenge

This congress represents a major strategic challenge. By bringing together European pork producers, the aim is not only to strengthen international collaboration, but also to stimulate innovation and competitiveness in the European pork sector. Participants left impressed by the actions and solutions proposed by the cooperative!

Our directors present Cooperl's vision of innovation

Our directors look back on the cooperative's evolution

58 years on, some of today's Cooperl directors look back at the launch of this great cooperative adventure, and highlight the major innovations it has brought with it.

In April 1966, led by Sébastien Coupé, 24 farmers with a passion for their trade got together and organized to market their pigs. Pragmatic and persevering, they took it upon themselves to create and sustain jobs, starting with breeding, the first link in a long chain that our cooperative would build step by step.

Modernization work at Montfort-sur-Meu (35)

In early April, the Montfort-sur-Meu (35) site was inaugurated following modernization work.

With 15 million invested (including 2 million financed by the French government's stimulus plan), our cooperative was able to present the results of this work:

- installation of new carcass splitting robots,

- replacement of electrical anaesthesia by carbon dioxide stunning.

This anaesthetizing technique not only improves the conditions under which animals are stunned, but also enables us to meet Anglo-Saxon specifications, thus opening up new commercial prospects for us overseas”, concludes Samuel Briens, site manager.

The new facilities provide employees with ergonomic workstations and reduced noise levels (less noise because the animals are quieter).

The press, local councillors and the Board of Directors all came away from the visit impressed by the new facilities.

Benoit and Éric's farm is committed to animal welfare, with the Porc Bien-Être (non-castration) and Porc Sans Antibiotique (no antibiotics from birth) specifications, and to the environment. The farm has been designed to promote a sustainable diet, and to produce green energy on site using photovoltaic panels.

Discussions on the present and future of the agricultural sector

Following the tour of the farm, the Minister held discussions with the various professional agricultural organizations in the Finistère department (Brittany, France) on the problems encountered, the work undertaken both locally and nationally, and the measures announced by the Government.
